Farlow, Doubles Team Advance At Crimson Tide Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Junior Ryan Farlow and the doubles team of Farlow and sophomore Chris Doerr advanced on the first day of action Friday at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Farlow won his opening match in the first round of the Musso draw while Farlow and Doerr advanced thru two rounds of the Tide Doubles Draw.
Farlow's victory in the first round came when he topped Georgia Tech's George Gvelesiani 6-2, 6-0 on Friday morning. With the victory, Farlow advances to face Alabama's Javier Bes Saturday at 10 a.m. CT. In Farlow and Doerr's first doubles match, the duo defeated the team of Andres Amores and Thomas Bellman of Jacksonville State University 8-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals match, Farlow and Doerr followed with an 8-4 win over Jordi Ballester and Victor Vaz of Jacksonville to advance to the semifinals. State's 40th-ranked Philippe Frayssinoux, the tournament's top seed, received a bye thru Friday's first round and will also be in action on Saturday in the Bryant Singles Draw.
In other singles action on Friday, three Bulldogs fell in their opening-round matches. Sophomore Pjotr Necajevs dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Pepperdine's Omar Altman in the Stallings Singles Draw while freshman Maximilien Genuini fell 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 to Eliot Potvin of Georgia Tech in the Stabler Draw. Doerr fell in his opening-round match to Alexander Arendt of Southern Miss in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
In Red Draw doubles, State's Frayssinoux and Genuini dropped an 8-4 decision to Anze Cevka and Nejc Podkrajsek of Georgia State while Necajevs, teamed with Eric Turner of North Carolina State, fell 8-2 to Domagoj Anic and Arendt of Southern Miss.
Singles and doubles play will continue Saturday and will run through Sunday at the University of Alabama.
