Lady Bulldogs In 14th After First Round Of Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ? The Mississippi State women's golf squad fired a first-round 311 on Friday at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate held at the Northriver Yacht Club Golf Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Lady Bulldogs are in 14th heading into Saturday's second round and stand 10 shots out of sixth place.
Leading the Mstate charge on Friday was freshman Erika Thornton. The Knoxville, Tenn., native fired a 74 in the opening round, matching a career best, and stands in a tie for 16th. Sophomore Suzanne Stanley shot a 75 and stands in a tie for 19th heading into the second round on Saturday. Sophomore Gina Sharp is in a tie for 65th after a round of 80 while MSU's Julia Huh is in a tie for 86th after firing an 82. Freshman Mallory Batson shot a first-round 84 to round out scoring for State.
Arkansas holds a two stroke advantage in the team competition after carding a 295 in the first round. Arkansas' Stacey Lewis holds the individual lead after the first round, shooting a 3-under 68. She leads Furman's Stefanie Kenoyer by a stroke.
Saturday's second round will get underway at 9 a.m. CT followed by an 8:40 a.m. CT start for the final round on Sunday.
