Frayssinoux, Doubles Team Advance At ITA Southeast Region Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Mississippi State's 40th-ranked Philippe Frayssinoux won his 11th match of the season Friday, as he advanced to the fourth round of the ITA Southeast Region Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky. The Plasir, France native knocked off Josh Varela of Georgia 6-2, 6-2 and moved to 11-2 this fall.
Frayssinoux, partnered with Pjotr Necajev, moved on in doubles competition due to a walkover in their first-round match. In the only other doubles match contested for State, Chris Doerr and Maximilen Genuini fell 8-6 to Florida's eighth-ranked duo of Greg Ouellette and Tyler Hockwalt.
In other main-draw singles action on Friday, State junior Ryan Farlow opened the day with a 6-3, 6-3 second-round win over J.C. Whitner of Miami, but dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Mississippi's Kalle Norberg in the third round later in the day.
In consolation singles action, two Bulldogs advanced to Saturday's second round. Bulldog freshman Genuini topped Charles Williams of Morehead State 6-1, 6-7, 1-0(10) while Doerr advanced with a walkover. MSU sophomore Necajev dropped a tough 7-6, 3-6, 0-1(20) decision to Vanderbilt's Adam Baker in his first-round consolation match.
Play will continue Saturday at Kentucky's Boone Tennis Complex and the Lexington Tennis Club.
