MSU Falls To No. 17 Florida, 3-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ??“ Two goals in the first 15 minutes put Mississippi State (2-13-0, 1-7-0) into an early hole, and the Florida (10-4-2, 6-1-1) defense held MSU in check for most of the game, as the Bulldogs fell to the No. 17 Gators, 3-1.
The Gators got the game's first scoring chance in the 11th minute. After a long pass, KaLeigh Hudson had the ball in front of the net and fired a shot of the crossbar. But a minute later, Florida connected. Angela Napolitano took a pass from eight yards out and put the ball past MSU goalkeeper Taryn Holland. UF added a second goal a minute later. A Brandi Parker foul gave Florida a penalty kick. Stacy Bishop put the ball into the left corner of the net, and UF had a 2-0 advantage.Florida had another opportunity in the 24th minute. Ameera Abdullah sent a corner kick into a crowd at the front of the net. After the ball bounced around, Shelley Long turned a fired a shot off the right post.
The Gators continued applying pressure for the rest of the half, as they outshot the Bulldogs, 11-1.
UF came out of the half and continued where they left off. Less than three minutes into the half, Abdullah almost gave Florida a 3-0 lead. She was all alone in front of the net, but sent the ball just past the left post.
However, Abdullah connected ten minutes later. Bishop brought the ball down the right side, and passed it to Abdullah shot the ball into the left corner of the net, giving the Gators a 3-0 lead.
Mississippi State finally got on the board on only its second shot of the game. With just under nine minutes remaining in regulation, Hannah Tyler turned and fired a shot from 25 yards out that sailed just over UF netminder Brittni Goodwin and snuck under the crossbar for her first career goal. The goal snapped an MSU scoreless streak of 537:53.
Florida outshot State, 20-3. Holland made two saves, and Stephanie Dallas made three.
The Bulldogs look to end its losing streak next weekend they travel to Lexington, Ky., to face the Kentucky Wildcats.
