William 'Mack' Cameron

William ‘Mack’ Cameron played tennis at Mississippi State from 1964-68. While wearing the Maroon and White, Cameron was a member of two SEC Championship teams in 1965 and 1967. In both the 1966 and 1967 seasons, Cameron’s play helped State finish third nationally.
In 1968, he helped State go 16-0 in SEC play and make their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
He won the 1965 Individual SEC Championship at No. 5 singles and won again in 1968 at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
In 1999, he was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, becoming one of three men’s tennis players to be honored, alongside Tom Sawyer and Bobby Brien (as of 2025).
In 2003, he was inducted into the Mississippi Tennis Association Hall of Fame.
Cameron is the son of Mississippi State legend C.B. “Buck” Cameron, and together, the duo became the first father-son combo to be inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame when Mack was inducted in 1999. His father was inducted in 1987.
