William F. "Bill" Arnold

William F. (Bill) Arnold was a tackle on the 1939-41 football teams at Mississippi State. The Hattiesburg native was a first team Academic All-SEC selection in 1941 and a second team All-SEC selection on the field. He served as the team captain on the 1941 SEC Championship team and helped the Bulldogs to a 10-0-1 record and a victory over Georgetown in the Orange Bowl.
He was a three-year letterman and two-year starter for Mississippi State. In his two years as a starter, he helped State earn a combined record of 18-1-1.
He helped the Bulldogs to a program-best national ranking of ninth in the final AP poll of 1940 and 16th in the 1941 United Press International poll.
He was a member of the Blue Key and Omicron Delta Kappa honorary fraternity and was a PT boat commander in the Pacific during World War II.
