J.T. "Blondy" Black

J.T. “Blondy” Black was a part of the football and track & field teams in his time at Mississippi State. He lettered in the two sports from 1939-42 and went on to play football professionally in 1946.
While at MSU, black ran a school-record 100 in 9.6, which translated to both his football and track careers. He won the SEC Individual Championship in 1942 for the 100-yard dash. He was an offensive back in football, where he had both speed and power.
Blondy averaged 6.1 yards per carry during his varsity tenure and holds records for the highest yards-per-rush average in a single game and season. He ran a 97-yard play from scrimmage and a 95-yard kickoff return in 1942. He also earned Second Team All-SEC honors in 41-42.
He went on to play professionally for the Buffalo Bisons in 1946 before being traded to the Baltimore Colts to finish his career in 1947.
