John Bond is known as one of Mississippi State's best quarterbacks. He led the Bulldogs' offense from 1980 to 83 and set many records.
Bond earned Freshman All-American honors and was MVP of the 1981 Hall of Fame Bowl. He was the only player in SEC history to rush for more than 2,000 yards and pass for more than 4,000 yards. He was also the only quarterback in college football history to beat LSU four times.
After college, Bond signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1984, then was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round. After his professional career, he became a graduate assistant for Mississippi State football and later went on to coach in the high school scene.
