James N. “Bert” Reddoch was a two-sport star at Mississippi State University from 1934 to 1936. Reddoch served as team captain for the 1936 Orange Bowl football team and the 1936 Bulldog boxing team.
Reddoch was a two-way player on the football team all three years he lettered at Mississippi State. He was a part of the Bulldogs’ big wins in 1935, besting the undefeated Army squad and Alabama, their first win against the conference opponents in 20 years.
Reddoch also found himself a standout in the Bulldog boxing ring. Joining the team in 1935, he fought in the senior middle weight position. He lost only one match in his two years on the team. In 1935, Reddoch earned the SEC Championship belt. Additionally, he was awarded the Golden Glove three times in his career.
A staunch supporter of Mississippi State athletic teams, Reddoch has been instrumental in developing the culture and excellence found at Mississippi State. He has served on the university’s development board, investment committee and patron board. He is a silver level member of the Bulldog Club and an active “M” Club alum.
Reddoch was a successful businessman and founded his own investment banking company after graduating from Mississippi State in 1936. He married Mozelle Critz and had two daughters. The family moved to Memphis, where Reddoch passed away in 1998 from cardiovascular disease.
