Hunter Corhern
- Induction:
- 1973
- Class:
- 1940
William “Hunter” Corhern played for the Mississippi State Bulldogs during one of their most successful eras, from 1938 to 1940. He played under two of MSU’s most beloved coaches, Spike Nelson and Allyn McKeen.
Corhern earned All-SEC first team and Second Team All-American honors in 1940. He was also named team captain in the same year. Corhern, a guard, helped anchor the offensive line and led the Bulldogs to a 3-0 opening in 1939. In 1940, he helped lead the team to a 10-0-1 season and bring MSU to their first-ever bowl win at the Orange Bowl. He was responsible for the first touchdown of that game.
The Chicago Bears drafted him, but his career was cut short due to his service in World War II. Corhern was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
