Tito Echiburu played for the Mississippi State men’s tennis team for three seasons from 1964-1966.

Echiburu was part of tennis’ first SEC Championship team in 1965, winning in No. 2 singles and doubles. Across the span of his career, Echiburu had a win percentage of over .900.

The 1965 team that Echiburu was apart of became the first Bulldog squad to make the NCAA Championship and would start a streak of four straight NCAA Championship appearances.That season, Echiburu lost in the first round of the singles tournament but advanced to the second round in the double’s tournament. He would then make a farther run during the 1966 NCAA Championship, as he advanced to the third round in singles and to the Round of 16 in doubles play.

Echiburu was a 1966 All-SEC Second Team selection. The Bulldogs won the National Invitational Tournament in his senior campaign.

Echiburu was inducted into the Mississippi Tennis Association Hall of Fame in 2009, becoming the fifth Bulldog to receive the honor.
