Harper Davis starred on the gridiron under Coach Allyn McKeen from 1945-48. Â
He was named First Team All-SEC as a freshman in 1945, rushing for 644 yards with six touchdowns and catching 10 passes for three scores. Â
In his senior campaign, Davis led the team with five interceptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns. He earned All-SEC honors every season as a Bulldog and was named MSU Best Athlete three years in a row. Â
State compiled a record of 25-12-1 during Davis’ four years playing in the Maroon and White.Â
After his college career, he was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers and played three seasons of professional football.Â
Davis was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1980 and given the honor of SEC Legend in 2002. His younger brother, Arthur, is a fellow M-Club Hall of Famer.Â
