A six-time letterwinner at Mississippi State, Frank W. Chambers Jr. starred on the football gridiron, baseball diamond and basketball court from 1939-41.
Chambers, an Arkansas native, was named second team All-SEC in both football and baseball. He was named team pitching MVP in 1964 for the Diamond Dawgs.
Chambers was drafted to play baseball professionally and would spend seven years as an outfielder with the Washington Senators. His career batting average was an impressive .359 at the end of his career.
Chambers continued to serve Mississippi State athletics following his retirement. He settled in Jackson and served the “M” Club Alumni Association as both secretary and president. He also served as chairman of the Mississippi Athletic Commission.
A former great at Mississippi State, Chambers was inducted into the MSU Sports Hall of Fame Class of 1978.
