Darryl Wilson was a major contributor on three State postseason squads highlighted by trips to the 1996 NCAA Final Four and 1995 NCAA Sweet 16 playing for Richard Williams.
Wilson was an All-SEC selection in all three seasons headed by a 1996 All-SEC First-Team nod from the coaches and a two-time National Association of Basketball Coches (NABC) All-District honoree.
Wilson became the fifth player in program history to score at least 500 points during multiple seasons. He also reached the 1,000-point barrier in 59 games which tied for third-fastest player at the time in State history.
Wilson wrapped up his career ranking first in three-pointers made (258), second in three-point field goal percentage (40.0), fourth in free throws made (439), fourth in steals (140), fourth in double-digit scoring games (83), fifth in free throw percentage (81.1) and sixth in points scored (1,619).
Wilson ended his career with the program’s most points in NCAA Tournament (164) and SEC Tournament (114) games. He provided 32 points against No. 19 Utah to punch State’s ticket to the 1995 NCAA Sweet 16 and dialed up 27 points versus No. 3 UConn to advance the Bulldogs to the 1996 NCAA Elite 8. He was chosen with Erick Dampier and Dontae’ Jones on the 1996 NCAA All-Southeast Regional team.
Wilson and Dampier became the first State players to amass double figures in at least 30 games during a season in 1995-96. He also became the second player in program history to finish his career with at least 1600 points, 200 assists and 100 steals.
