Curtis R. "Curt" Monroe

Curt Monroe was a two-year starter on the mound for the Diamond Dawgs during the 1952 and 1953 season.

Monroe began his collegiate career at the junior college level at East Central, where he was coached by fellow hall of fame member John Grace.

In his first season in Starkville, Monroe went 4-2 with a 2.84 ERA. During his senior season, he helped guide the Bulldogs to a 15-7 record, including a 12-3 SEC Record. On the mound, Monroe earned a 6-1 record with a 3.20 ERA. State also won the SEC Western Division Championship and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.

After earning his master’s degree at Mississippi State, Monroe was drafted into the US Army and served for two years. He then began his coaching career at Union HS in Union, Mississippi, as the head baseball and an assistant football coach. He moved to Fulton, Mississippi to coach at Itawamba Community College for 22 seasons from 1962-1984. He stepped down but continued his teaching role until his retirement in 1993. He also served as the chairman of the history department throughout his entire tenure.

Along with his induction into the MSU Hall of Fame, Monroe was inducted into the Itawamba Community College Hall of Fame in 2003.
