Charles H. "Pee Wee" Armstrong

Charles Armstrong starred at Mississippi State from 1934-37, where he earned multiple varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. In 1935, he earned All-SEC honors in football and was named an honorable mention All-SEC honoree in basketball, and in 1937, he was named Best Athlete.
As a freshman at State in 1933, he quarterbacked the freshman football team that went undefeated, untied and unscored on. In 1935, he threw the winning touchdown pass to beat Army at West Point (13-7), handing Army their first loss. Many newspapers in 1935 called it Mississippi State’s greatest victory ever.
In 1936, he helped Mississippi State beat Ole Miss in football by throwing a touchdown pass despite having an injured shoulder, he was with winning pitcher in the baseball game in May and was the leading scorer in the basketball game (13 points) that saw State beat Ole Miss 39-38.
Following his playing days, he coached Mississippi State’s freshman football team in 1937 & 1938 ... He played professional baseball for the Jackson Senators in 1937 & 1938 ... He was the Athletics Director and teacher at Belzoni High School from 1939-43 ... He served in the U.S. Army (Medical Corps) from 1943-46 ... He spent 10 years as an SEC official for both football and basketball.
Armstrong was a 1976 inductee to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
He and his wife Margaret Weems had two children, Janet and Richard.
