Considered one of the greatest football players in Mississippi State history, Arthur Davis wore the Maroon and White from 1952-55.Â
Davis was a four-year starter at State on both offense and defense and had notable performances such as scoring four touchdowns in a 25-0 road rout of LSU in 1954 – three rushing touchdowns and one interception return -- and marking the first MSU touchdown called by illustrious radio announcer Jack Cristil in 1953.Â
He was named SEC Player of the Year in 1954 and earned First Team All-American honors in 1955. Look Magazine named Davis National Player of the Year in 1955.Â
The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Davis fifth overall in the 1956 NFL Draft, but a knee injury ended his career prematurely. Davis was the younger brother of fellow M-Club Hall of Famer Harper Davis.Â
Arthur was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1981, honored as an SEC Legend in 2004 and had his name included in the Ring of Honor at Davis Wade Stadium in 2018.Â
