2017 (SENIOR)
Worked her way into a starting role as a senior, seeing action in 16 of State’s 18 matches and drawing 11 starting nods… Finished her career with 11 straight starts… Played in a career-high 1,096 minutes in her final season at MSU, going the distance twice… Found the net twice, also a career best… Attempted 29 shots with 10 being on-target… Scored her first goal of the year against Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 8… Played a season- and career-best 106 minutes vs. Auburn on Sept. 29… Netted her second score of the season at No. 3 South Carolina on Oct. 5
2016 (JUNIOR)
Appeared in 11 games, making a start once for the Bulldogs… Her only start of the season came in the overtime win at South Alabama… Logged 163 minutes, with a season-high 42 coming against South Alabama… Took two shots, with one on target.
2015 (SOPHOMORE)
Played in 12 games for the Bulldogs, getting the start twice… Recorded 271 minutes in her sophomore season, with a season-high 59 coming against Southern Miss (Sept. 6)… Netted her first collegiate goal in the 4-0 win against Nicholls State (Sept. 4)… Tallied two points on the season… Took five shots, with one on target.
2014 (FRESHMAN)
Appeared in 15 games, with eight having come in a starting role… Logged 805 minutes of playing time… Attempted 12 shots and five shots on goal… Made her collegiate debut in the season opener vs. Iowa State (Aug. 22) and made her first-career start against Cincinnati (Aug. 24)… Made four-straight starts, starting with the Cincinnati game, up until the game at Arkansas State (Sept. 4).
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB
Was a standout in the midfield and on the attack for Matthew Colvin’s Southlake Carroll High School squad… Helped the squad to a 23-2-1 record, the fewest losses in program history, and the 5A state quarterfinals her senior season… Also led the team to a third-straight district crown and the area championship… Named the team’s “Queen of the Air” and first team all-district after tallying 14 points on five goals and four assists… Helped the Lady Dragons deposit 97 shots while surrendering a program-best seven… Added a stellar senior campaign following a junior season that saw her earn second team all-district honors after leading Carroll to a school-best 30-3-0 record and the 5A state runner-up… Claimed a district title and went to the region quarterfinals with the squad as a sophomore… Excelled off the pitch as well, earning academic all-district honors all four years… Received academic all-state accolades following her senior campaign… Played club soccer for Solar Chelsea ’96 and coach Adrian Solca… Helped Solar Chelsea to the 2013 ECNL national tournament and a third-place finish in the Champions League.

Born Payton Gruenewald on June 9, 1996, in Naperville, Ill… Daughter of Trevor and Rhonda Gruenewald… Her father played baseball at Purdue… Two siblings play volleyball, Taylor at Cal Poly and Brayden plays beach volleyball at UAB…Also has one other younger sibling, Mitchell… Majoring in business administration…She chose MSU because of the traditions… Has moved eight times... Member of the Deans List every semester at MSU… Favorite thing about soccer is heading… Favorite team to face is Ole Miss... Goal after college is to work for American Airlines as a financial analyst.
