Trent Zelden

Trent Zelden, a 2023 graduate of Mississippi State, completed his first year as an assistant throws coach in the 2023-2024 season.Â
In his first season as assistant coach, Zelden helped oversee six athletes to the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA East First Round meet, Roury McCloyen, Jhordyn Stallworth, Ella Knott, Remi Rougetet, and Franck Di Sanza qualified for the national championship under both his and associate head coach April Thomas’ tutelage. Peyton Bair walked away from the championship as the national runner-up in the decathlon with Zelden as his throws coach. At the conclusion of his first season on staff, Zelden has helped coach four All-American athletes, as well as a World U20 Championship qualifier in Roury McCloyen, where he finished tenth.
During his time at State, Zelden threw the hammer and javelin, competing in two SEC conference championships and placing in the top-10 in the 2023 SEC Championship in the javelin throw.
As a senior, Zelden was the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and earned academic honors all four years. Off the field, Zelden interned with Learfield, MSU’s Director of Operations, and worked as a training coach at Ochsner Performance before taking on the role of an assistant coach.
