Compiled a 66-39 record in singles and 60-42 in doubles throughout his career for the Maroon and White… Career high national rankings are 27th (singles) and 11th (doubles)… Played a major role in MSU’s 2011 and 2012 SEC Western crowns and the program’s back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances… All-SEC selection in 2011… Two time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection and ITA Scholar Athlete.
SENIOR (2011-12)
Among the nation’s top 50 in singles play coming into the spring... Put together an impressive 27-8 overall singles record, with a 8-3 showing in SEC play... Along with teammate Artem Ilyushin, compiled a 15-5 overall record with a 7-4 record in SEC play, helping MSU to capture 17 doubles points throughout the season... Was one of two players to win at least 20 games in dual match play along with Cant.
FALL – Ranking 27th in the ITA fall poll… Tallied six singles wins and two doubles victories in fall play… Tailed two victories at the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens… After falling to sixth-ranked Will Spencer of Georgia in the opening round of main draw action the ITA All-Americans, he advanced to consolation semifinals, defeating three ranked opponents, before falling to Pepperdine’s No. 10 Sebastion Fanselow… Earned a solid victory at the USTA/ITA Southern Regionals… In doubles, Coupland and fellow sophomore Zach White tallied a win at the ITA All-Americans in qualifying action.
SPRING – Ranked 32nd in singles entering his senior spring season... Suffered only four losses throughout the entire season, which was second-best on team behind Louis Cant... Started this season with a victory against Axel Bouillon of UC-Santa Barbara, clinching the win for the Bulldogs... Put together a team-best 10 game winning streak, which helped MSU to wins in 7 of those contests... Took down Ole Miss' Chris Theimann in a three-set battle to clinch a River Hills Cup victory for the Maroon and White... Defeated 47th-ranked Hernus Pieters of Georgia in his first contest against a ranked opponent this season... Was the deciding match in wins against No. 39 Arkansas and No. 40 Vanderbilt... Defeated Georgia's Ignacio Taboada, ranked 44th in the nation, in a tough SEC semifinals loss for State... Ended the season with an impressive three set victory against Baylor's Diego Galeano in the NCAA's Second Round... Selected to the NCAA Championships in singles, where he advanced to the Second Round after defeating No. 58 Nick Andrews of California... Found his best doubles success in being paired with teammate Artem Ilyushin, earning 15 victories on the year... Defeated every ranked opponent faced this season (4-0)... Took down Florida's 8th-ranked duo of Billy Federhofer and Nassim Slilam to help push MSU to a crucial SEC road win... Followed up a big victory over the Florida duo with a defeat of 64th-ranked Chip Cox and Nick Jones of South Carolina... Gained victories against the 16th-ranked Theimann brothers of Ole Miss and the No. 10 duo of Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee in consecutive matches... Earned a bid to the NCAA Championships, dropping an intensely battled three set match to the No. 21 duo of Roy Kalmanovich and Dennis Nevolo of Illinois... Posted a 3-3 record in doubles matches with other teammates... Finished the season ranked 57th nationally in singles and 27th nationally in doubles with Artem Ilyushin.
JUNIOR (2010-11):
Went 16-13 in singles and 16-15 in doubles in a very successful junior campaign. Helped MSU to the 2011 Western Division title and the program’s 20th NCAA Championship appearance… Ranked as high as 55th (singles) and 11th (doubles). Was a Second Team All-SEC selection as well as being named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and an ITA Scholar Athlete.
FALL - As one of the veteran leaders for the Bulldogs, posted three singles victories as the 56th-ranked singles player, including one win over a ranked opponent and a team-high five doubles wins... Opened his fall season at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., which is the first of three major collegiate tennis championship events played each season ranked 56th nationally... Opened play at the ITA All-American Championships in the qualifying draw but slipped up in the first round... Following his opening round loss, conjured an impressive consolation victory over No. 112 ranked in two sets... Played in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships with teammate Zach White dropping the first round match to the No. 23 ranked doubles team in the country but rebounded with a victory over the 25th-ranked tandem in consolation... Advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regional Championships with a pair of victories in singles... In doubles Coupland and his partner Artem Ilyushin who rank 11th nationally earned a runner up finish at the ITA Southern Regional Championships claiming four straight victories along the way.
SPRING - Began the spring season with three-straight victories... Helped MSU achieve two 7-0 victories to open its home slate... Conjured an impressive straight-set victory over UAB's David Zimmerman after trailing 4-0 in the opening set... Clinched the match for State in a thrilling upset over Vanderbilt's No. 36 ranked Ryan Lipman... Following the impressive victory jumped to 85th in the national standings... Clinched another match for the Maroon and White this time on the road at LSU... Helped State begin its conference schedule at 4-1... Opened the spring ranked twice in doubles; 45th with teammate Zach White and 53rd with ArtemIlyushin... His most notorious victory came against 4th ranked Rhyne Williams of Tennessee en route to a 6-1 triumph over the Vols... Was named to the All-SEC Second Team, SEC Academic Honor Roll as well as an ITA Scholar Athlete.
SOPHOMORE (2009-10):
Went 20-17 in singles and 20-15 in doubles play… Ranked as high as 42nd (singles) and 26th (doubles)… Helped MSU to a final 48th national ranking while advancing to the NCAA Championship qualifiers in doubles alongside teammate Artem Ilyushin… Was selected as the ITA 2010 Southern Region Rookie of the Year.
FALL - Entered the fall ranked 109th nationally and tallied 11 wins, which tied him for second-best on the team... Claimed five of his teammates' 12 victories over ranked opponents and was a part of State's only doubles victory over a ranked foe... Ended the fall on a three-match win streak, leading to a Flight A singles title at the Virginia Tech Challenge, which included two upset victories, the first over 35th-ranked Yoann Re of host-school Virginia Tech and then over 84th-ranked Chris Nott of Arkansas... Honored as runner-up at the ITA Southern Regional after claiming five straight matches at the event before falling to Auburn's 54th-ranked Tim Puetz in the title match... Advanced to the third and final round of qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., falling to 56th-ranked Lee Singer of Virginia... Teaming up with fellow sophomore Artem Ilyushin, the Bulldog tandem racked up an 8-2 fall doubles record, including an 8-2 takedown of Stanford's 31st nationally ranked duo and a semifinal showing at the ITA Southern Regionals... Resilient in three-set matches compiling a 5-1 record.
SPRING - Tallied nine dual match victories in the spring season and went .500 in conference play with a record of 5-5, while also posting four victories over ranked opponents in singles... Was an NCAA Championship qualifier in doubles along with teammate Artem Ilyushin, earning 12 spring victories and an impressive 7-3 record in SEC action... In singles won three-straight conference matches including a career-best victory over 26th-ranked Boris Conkic of Tennessee, while also tallying an impressive two-set SEC Championship victory over No. 32 nationally ranked Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt which clinched the match for the Maroon and White... Finished the season ranked 79th nationally in singles... In doubles, was instrumental in State's dominance of the doubles point as the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point 13 times... Went through a span of claiming nine of 12 matches and ranked as high as 30th nationally... Clinched the doubles point for MSU four times and finished the season ranked 26th, following a tough three-set setback against Oklahoma State... Was selected by the ITA as the 2010 Southern Region Rookie Player of the Year, the second Bulldog in history to win that honor.
FRESHMAN (2008-09):
Due to ineligibility, sat out his first season at MSU.
PRE-MSU:
Was ranked in the top five in the United Kingdom for under-18 players... Came to MSU ranked 33rd in the men's standings... Has competed in juniors and men's ITF events... Also earned multiple ATP points on the futures circuit... Attended Verulam Boys School and Oakland High School.

George Peter Coupland was born on May 12, 1989, in Beverly, England... The son of Matthew and Louise Coupland... Has a younger brother, Edward (20), and sister, Abigail (18)... Enjoys listening to music, socializing and watching MSU football... Majoring in physical education at MSU.
