Tevin Baskin begins his first season at Mississippi State, joining Ben Howland’s staff as a graduate assistant after a year at Bridgewater College in Virginia.
Baskin started his collegiate coaching career in 2016 at Northwest Florida State College, where he worked with the wings and post players. The 2016-17 Raiders' squad was ranked No. 1 in the Sporting News Junior College preseason poll and won the Panhandle Conference championship while putting together the first undefeated conference season in school history. The Raiders' season ended with a loss in the junior college national championship Final Four.
A standout high school small forward at Trinity Catholic in Connecticut, Baskin led his team to a combined 102-12 record in his four years while ranking third on his school’s all-time scoring list with 1,869 points. Baskin was rated as a top 50 small forward by ESPN.com and was selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game.
Baskin started his college playing career at Quinnipiac and, after one season, transferred to Chipola College where he helped the squad post a 26-3 record. Chipola was ousted in the first round of the national junior college tournament.
After junior college, Baskin completed his collegiate career at Appalachian State University. He played in all 31 games as a junior and scored in double figures 18 times. During his senior season, he scored a season-high 24 points against ACC foe N.C. State.
Following his final season of college basketball, Baskin played two years of professional basketball in Mexico.
Baskin was born Jan. 9, 1991 and is the son of Yolanda Baskin and Donald Alexander. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies with a minor in sociology from Appalachian State.
