Jonathan Comer embarks on his first season as a fellow on the Mississippi State men’s basketball staff in 2026-27.
Before State, Comer served as an assistant coach at Belhaven located in Jackson, Mississippi during the 2025-26 season. He contributed to all aspects of the program where he brought a proven track record of program building, player development and community engagement.
Belhaven made its first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance after the Blazers captured the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) championship.
Comer, a native of Caledonia, Mississippi, built up his coaching resume on the strength of five successful seasons at the high school level between his time at South Pontotoc (2020-21) and Caledonia High Schools (2021-25) in the Magnolia State.
Comer’s Caledonia tenure was highlighted by consecutive 20-win campaigns during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons for the first time in over two decades. In 2023-24, his team reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in 15 years.
Comer earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State in 2018. He started his collegiate career and played shooting guard at East Central Community College during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
Comer is pursuing a Master of Applied Science in organizational leadership with a concentration in sports leadership in his return to Mississippi State. He and his wife, Kathryn, have a son, Caden.
