Bo Rodriguez is in his second year as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State following a collegiate career at Santa Barbara City College and Whittier College.
His duties at MSU include assisting with on-court workouts, video scouting, academic monitoring and on-campus recruiting.
While at SBCC, he was a two-year starter and a captain his sophomore season. Off the court, he made the student-athlete honor roll with his 3.5 GPA.
At Whittier, Rodriguez’ career-high of 11 points and 6 rebounds came against the University of Redlands in a key victory on the year.
The Goleta, Calif., native, who received a degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports management, was most recently an assistant high school basketball coach for three years under his father Sal at Laguna Blanca High School before spending one year at Whittier High School.
While at Laguna, his 2013 team advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Section California state tournament en route to a 17-8 ledger.
His coaching duties also include a volunteer stint at UC-Santa Barbara in 2015. That year, the Gauchos finished with a 19-14 record and garnered a birth to the CBI, where they lost a heartbreaker, 91-87 to Oral Roberts.
The Rodriguez family has a long-standing relationship with Howland. Sal was his childhood coach in Goleta, where the court at the Boys and Girls Club is named in his honor. Sal also played collegiate basketball at Fresno State, where he graduated in 1968.
Rodriguez, 28, was born on March 14, 1989, in Goleta.
