Matt Holecek was named Mississippi State's quarterbacks coach on December 1, 2023.Â
Holecek spent the last four seasons alongside Lebby as an assistant quarterbacks coach and joined the Bulldogs from Oklahoma (2022-23). Before that, he served in a similar role at Ole Miss (2020-21). Before his two-year stint at Ole Miss, Holecek worked as an offensive assistant at Missouri, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 2018.Â
Alongside Lebby, Holecek has helped develop quarterbacks like Dillon Gabriel (Oklahoma), Matt Corral (Ole Miss) and Drew Lock (Missouri).Â
Gabriel was one of the most dynamic passers in the country the last two seasons, leading the Big 12 with 3,360 yards and 30 touchdowns this year after ranking second in the conference with 3,163 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2022.
During Holecek's two seasons in Oxford, Corral threw for 6,686 yards and 49 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. He ranked third in the SEC in passing yards per game in both seasons and was the only player in 2021 who passed for at least 3,000 yards and rushed for more than 500.Â
While at Missouri, Holecek saw Lock rank second in the SEC in passing yardage with 3,498 and third in passing touchdowns with 28.
