Jon Shalala is in his first season at Mississippi State as a defensive quality control coach.
Shalala primarily works with the linebackers unit. He came to Starkville following a three-year stint at Tennessee as a defensive graduate assistant. In Knoxville during the 2016-17 seasons, he worked under current Bulldogs defensive coordinator and then-Volunteers defensive coordinator Bob Shoop.
Shalala joined Tennessee in the summer of 2016 after spending 2015 at Arizona Western College, where he coached offensive line and tight ends.
Prior to joining Arizona Western’s staff, Shalala worked one season as the wide receivers coach for the Iowa Barnstormers in Des Moines, Iowa, while finishing his degree as a senior at Grand View University.
Shalala attended Grand View University from 2011-2014, where he played quarterback for the 2013 NAIA National Champions.
A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Shalala earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and psychology.
