Jay Perry, a Starkville native and Mississippi State graduate, is in his sixth year at Mississippi State and first as Associate Athletic Director for Legislative and Internal Affairs. Perry joined the football staff in August 2017 as Director of Player Development.
Perry serves on the department’s executive staff and is an administrative resource for MSU student-athletes in all phases of their development. Among his chief responsibilities, he serves as a liaison with the athletic department’s life skills and mentor programs, the Mississippi State compliance department, the university’s dean of student’s office, and the Office of the General Counsel.

Perry oversees and coordinates the athletic department’s Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) department. Perry established and chairs the NIL advisory committee. As part of these efforts, Mississippi State partnered with nationally recognized Altius Sports Partners to help provide strategic solutions on topics related to NIL. Altius oversees the education component of NIL at Mississippi State with student-athletes and coaches. Mississippi State has also partnered with Opendorse, establishing the Mississippi State Marketplace (https://opendorse.com/mississippistate-bulldogs). Perry also leads the department’s efforts to facilitate opportunities for student-athletes to engage with third party NIL entities.
Perry came to MSU after spending 20 years in the legal profession, much of which was spent advising student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in intercollegiate athletics. Perry also serves as the sideline analyst for Bulldog football games and previously served as an SEC Network+ play-by-play and color analyst.

A 1994 graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in communication, Perry went on to earn a law degree at the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1997.

Perry has three sons: Â Jack, a junior at Mississippi State; Banks, a sophomore at Mississippi State; and Larkin, a junior at Starkville High School.Â
