Ephraim Banda
- Title:
- Defensive Quality Control
Ephraim Banda is in his first season at Mississippi State as defensive quality control.
Banda has assisted defensive coordinator Manny Diaz in 2015 and worked exclusively with the Bulldog defensive backs.
State led the nation in fewest pass plays of 20+ yards allowed in 2015, surrendering only 24. Despite several key injuries to seniors, the secondary ranked fourth in the Southeastern Conference in passes defended with 63. Much of the conference season saw talented true freshmen Jamal Peters and Mark McClaurin take considerable snaps at safety, while redshirt freshman safety Brandon Bryant ranked third among all SEC freshmen in tackles with 57.
Prior to arriving in Starkville, Banda spent three seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Texas from 2012-15. He filled a variety of roles from scripting practices and organizing scouting reports to assisting with the defensive backs. He worked with both head coach Charlie Strong and head coach Mack Brown. He also assisted with the Longhorn special teams.
Banda is a graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. He got his coaching start there after his playing days in 2011.
