DeAndre Ward, an MSU alumnus and former football student-athlete, was named assistant strength and conditioning coach on January 24, 2020.
Ward returns to Starkville after spending the last two years as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cincinnati. The Wetumpka, Alabama, native was a hard-working, smart linebacker at MSU 2013-16 who went from being a walk-on to earning a full ride at the end of training camp in fall 2014 due to his work ethic. He was a two-time member of the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology in December 2016.

Ward played in 41 career games with three starts collecting 79 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and one interception for a touchdown. He played in a bowl game every years of his MSU career and was a prominent member on special teams coverage during the Bulldogs’ rise to the No. 1 ranking in 2014.
