Easley, Rea, Powers Earn All-SEC Honors; Pigott On Good Works Squad

In a vote by the Southeastern Conference coaches, junior catcher Edward Easley was accorded first-team All-SEC honors, senior second baseman Jeffrey Rea was named to the All-SEC second team and rookie third baseman Connor Powers was named to the SEC All-Freshman team.
Easley, from Olive Branch, Miss., concluded the regular season with a .377 batting average, fifth-highest in the SEC. He paced MSU with 77 hits, 12 home runs and 59 RBI and threw out an SEC-leading 26 base-stealers. Monday night the Easley became the first catcher and the second Mississippi State player to win the Cellular South Ferriss Trophy as Mississippi's top collegiate baseball player.
Four-year starting second baseman Jeffrey Rea earned All-SEC honors for the second consecutive year. Rea, from Nettleton, Miss., hit .343 and ranked among the SEC's top defensive second basemen en route to second-team All-SEC honors. Rea has piled up 323 career hits, ranking sixth among the SEC's all-time career hits leaders and third at MSU, five hits away from the school career hits record of 328 hits held by Richard Lee.
Powers, a true freshman from Naperville, Ill., represented Mississippi State on the All-Freshman team. Powers hit .305 with seven home runs, 21 extra-base hits and 34 RBI.
Pigott Named To SEC Good Works Team
Mississippi State junior pitcher Justin Pigott of Picayune, Miss., represented Mississippi State on the 2007 SEC Baseball Good Works team, recognizing the community service efforts of Southeastern Conference student-athletes. Pigott has served as a volunteer with the annual MSU Halloween Carnival conducted on campus for area youth. The crafty MSU left-hander has participated in a reading program for youth at MSU's Aiken Village Preschool, assisted with food delivery to Starkville area residents in the M-Club's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and frequently has served as a guest speaker at area Fellowship of Christian Athletes events.
