Edward Easley Among 10 Semifinalists For Bench Award

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State junior catcher Edward Easley has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2007 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award, which honors the nation's top collegiate catcher.
Easley, from Olive Branch, Miss., sports a .371 batting average and leads No. 20 Mississippi State with 12 home runs and 57 RBI. He has also thrown out 24 base-stealers, top in the Southeastern Conference, and sports a .993 fielding percentage.
The list of 10 finalists will be trimmed to three finalists June 5. Johnny Bench will present the award at the 10th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet June 27 in Wichita, Kansas.
Easley is also one of three finalists for the 2007 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy, honoring Mississippi's top collegiate baseball player. The trophy will be presented in a ceremony Monday night in Cleveland, Miss.
