Another SEC Freshman Of The Week Honor For MSU's Brandon Turner
Turner collected 11 hits in 18 at-bats (.611) while driving in 10 runs in four games last week against Mississippi and LSU and enters the week with an SEC-best .444 batting average. In State's 14-9 win over Mississippi in the inaugural Governor's Cup Game played last Tuesday in Pearl, Miss., Turner matched a career-high with four RBI in a 3-for-4 plate performance.
The Bulldog rookie notched three three-hit games in four games played last week, raising his team-leading total to 22 multiple-hit games. Turner, currently riding a team season-longest 16-game hitting streak, has hits in 31 of MSU's 34 games and sports a .429 conference batting average, third-highest in the SEC.
Mississippi State (25-10, 9-7 SEC), is ranked 17th this week by Collegiate Baseball. State entertains instate C-USA rival Southern Miss (25-16) in 6:30 p.m. games Tuesday and Wednesday before resuming rugged SEC Western Division play this weekend in Oxford, Miss., with a three-game series against the Mississippi Rebels (27-15, 10-8 SEC).
