MSU's McKay Wins 3000-Meter Steeplechase at Mt. SAC Relays

McKay is one of 17 MSU track and field athletes that are participating this weekend that is hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. The west coast event will continue thru Sunday, April 15. The Maroon and White will also have a strong contingent at the Mississippi Open at the University of Mississippi campus on Saturday.
The time turned in by the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-native improved his NCAA Regional status in the event. He posted a regional qualifying mark at the Georgia Relays with a time of 8:54.95. In other men's events, State's Brandon Smith turned in a personal-best 3:58.58 in the 1500-meter run.
For the Lady Bulldogs, senior Jen McPherson claimed third place in the 1500-meter run late Friday evening with a season-best time of 4:21.63. Her time ranks third-best all-time in MState track laurels in the 1500-meter run. With her mark, the Nampa, Idaho-product has qualified for NCAA post-season competition in her last two outings. Last week at the Texas Relays, McPherson recorded a time of 4:27.16.
In the men's and women's 10,000-meter run late Friday night, State's Robert Scribner registered the second-best time in the MSU record books in the event. Scribner, from Tupelo, Miss., clocked a time of 30:04.16. Michelle Corrigan broke a 12-year standing record in the 10K with a time of 35:30.43. The previous record was held by Stacey Moseley, who set the record in 1995.
