State's Brandon Turner Tabbed SEC Freshman Of The Week

Turner, who with junior catcher Edward Easley shares the team hitting lead with a .426 batting average (fourth in the SEC), hit at a .632 clip (12 for 19) last week, scoring eight runs and collecting nine RBI. Four of those runs batted in came on a career-first home run and team season-first grand slam that sparked State to a 9-8 come-from-behind Tuesday night win over Memphis.
The hot-hitting Turner hit .667 (8 for 12) with a .692 on-base percentage in the Kentucky series. He leads the Bulldogs with 43 hits, tops among freshmen in the SEC and paces the club with 33 runs scored and 15 multiple-hit games. Turner has hits in 22 of MSU's 25 games (eight of nine SEC games) and sports a team-best .410 batting average against SEC competition.
It's the first such honor for a Mississippi State baseball player since the Southeastern Conference began honoring league freshmen on a weekly basis with the 2006 season.
