Lady Bulldogs Set To Battle Tough Field At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

The field features seven of the nation's top 25 teams including six from the Southeastern Conference. Of the 21 teams, 15 are ranked in the top-50 nationally.
Competing this weekend for the Lady Bulldogs will be Amanda Mathis, Julia Huh, Leigh Phillips, Gina Sharp and Suzanne Stanley. Mathis, a senior, currently leads the squad in stroke average with a 77.29. She has been MSU's top finisher three times this season including a tournament win last fall at the Wildcat Invitational. Huh currently holds a 78.70 stroke average and has been State's top finisher twice this season. Phillips comes into this weekends tournament with an 81.64 stroke average this season. Sharp, a freshman, is coming off this past weekends Lady Gator Invitational, where she set five career marks including the best round of the season. Stanley will be competing in her sixth tournament this season, which is second best on the team.
"This is the largest field we will see this year," said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. "The course we are playing will host the NCAA East Regional and with that being said, there will be many top-ranked teams to compete against this week. This will be a good tournament for my young players to gain some valuable experience."
This season marks the 22nd consecutive season that State will compete in the tournament hosted by LSU. Last season at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, State finished in eighth of 18 teams. Mathis led the way, shooting a 222 and tied for 15th.
Friday and Saturday's rounds will begin at 8 a.m. CT on holes #1 and #10, while Sunday's final round will be a shotgun start, also beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
