MSU Golfers Open Spring Season At Rio Pinar Intercollegiate

MState will be making its third-straight appearance in the event. In 2006, the squad opened the spring session with a seventh-place finish in the tournament. The two-day event will be co-hosted by the University of South Alabama and the University of Memphis this year.
MSU head coach Clay Homan's line up will consist of sophomores Carlos Sainz, Jr., Noah Goldman, Brian Mason and Logan Young. Junior Jake Lambert rounds out the five-man line up. Goldman will be playing just 12 miles from his hometown of Longwood, Fla. He features a line up-best 73.86 scoring average after the fall competition.
The Maroon and White are is coming off an impressive fall slate, finishing in the top five in three of the six fall tournaments. The squad claimed the Callis Communications Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
We have a chance to get the season started on a good note with a familiar place in Rio Pinar Country Club. We have some guys that have played this course before in past seasons, said MSU head coach Clay Homan.
The field for the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate includes ?€“ Furman, Georgia Southern, Kansas State, Louisville, Mercer, Memphis, Missouri, Ohio State, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Tulsa, Texas-Arlington, Chattanooga and Wichita State.
The Bulldogs will be paired with Louisville and Tulsa on the opening day of the event. The Cardinals of UL are ranked No. 17 according to the latest rankings by Golfweek.com and Tulsa enters the event at No. 18.
First round action will begin on Monday morning, while the second round will transpire during the afternoon.
