Mississippi State Sets First Three Football Game Dates

STARKVILLE, Miss. ?€“ The Mississippi State football team will open its 2007 season Thursday, Aug. 30, against Southeastern Conference rival LSU, the league office announced Thursday.
The game will be televised to a national audience by ESPN as the inaugural contest on its Thursday night college football television package. It marks the second-straight year that MSU will open its football season with a nationally televised Thursday night game and its 13th such regular-season Thursday night contest since 1992.
In conjunction with the SEC announcement, MState has revised the following two weeks on its tentative '07 schedule, athletic director Larry Templeton said. The Bulldogs will now play at Tulane on Saturday, Sept. 8, and at Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Coach (Sylvester) Croom and I are both excited to have the opportunity provided by ESPN and the SEC to open the 2007 season on our campus against LSU on national television, Templeton said. I also appreciate Auburn and Tulane working with us to not only adjust our game dates with them, but their willingness to work with others on their schedule to accommodate our request.
Opening the season against LSU on national television provides terrific exposure for our university and our football program, Croom said. The best thing about the move is that it keeps our players focused throughout the spring and summer on LSU.
The remainder of the schedule is still tentative at this time, as additional changes are still expected before the official schedule is released.
