Griffith, Irwin Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

Magloire named to women's second team
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State juniors Joy Griffith (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and Ryan Irwin (Ballwin, Mo.) have been named to the ESPN the Magazine College Sports Information Directors of America District VI Academic all-District First Team and senior Zita Magloire (Tallahassee, Fla.) was named to the Second Team as announced by the organization on Thursday.
Griffith posted a 3.96 cumulative grade point average in animal/dairy sciences (pre-veterinary medicine). She set the MSU school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking a regional-qualifying 10 minutes, 35.31 seconds in a 10th-place finish at the Penn Relays. Griffith took third at the Southeastern Conference championships, running a regional mark of 10:43.40. She also ran on the 4x1500-meter relay that set the school record in the event (18:09.43) and finished sixth in the Championship of America flight at the Penn Relays.
Griffith was named the overall female winner for the Newsom Academic award, presented annually to the top MSU athlete in each sport. She also received the animal/diary sciences female scholarship and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Griffith has been named to the Bulldog Honor Roll and President's List every semester at MSU.
Irwin's cumulative grade point average is a 3.87 in computer engineering. He ran a personal best time in the 1500-meter run at the SEC Championships (4:01.33) and was a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that ran 7:53.52 to post the fifth-best time in school history at the Texas Relays. Irwin was also on the winning distance medley relay team at the FSU Snowbird (10:32.35).
Academically, Irwin has received the Newsom Academic award. He has also been named to the Bulldog and SEC Academic Honor Rolls and the President's List. He is a research assistant at MSU's Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and a member of the student-athlete community service organization, M-Club.
Magloire posted a cumulative 3.75 grade point average as a biological sciences (pre-medicine) major. She qualified for the Mideast Regional, in the 800- and 1500-meter runs. She ran a personal-best 2:09.16 in the 800 at the Jace Lacoste Invitational and a personal-best 4:25.80 in the 1500 at the SEC Championships. Both times are the fourth-best time in school history in the events. Magloire also ran on the school-record setting 4x800- (8:47.84) and 4x1500- (18:09.43) relays.
She has been named to the President's List six semesters, received the Newsom Academic award and been named to the SEC and Bulldog Academic Honor Rolls and to the 2003 National Collegiate Division I Track Coaches Association Academic all-America team. Magloire has been accepted to medical school at Florida State.
