MSU Track Adds Another Tuscaloosa Native For Next Season
Aaron will work closely with assistant coach Kurt Thomas, who overseeswomen's sprints, hurdles and jumps.
Laquinta is one of the best sprinters in the country that no one knowsabout. We got lucky in finding her, Thomas said. Along with the youngladies we added in the fall, this makes our signing class so muchbetter. She has exceptional talent and is a great kid from a greatfamily. I look forward to working with her.
Under coach Jeff Sparks at NHS, Aaron has won a combined 15 statechampionships in the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, indoor andoutdoor long jump, indoor and outdoor 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash,outdoor 200-meter dash, 300-meter hurdles, 4x100- and 4x400-meterrelays and heptathlon. During her five years of competition, Northridgehas won two indoor state titles and three outdoor.
During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Aaron was named the Most ValuablePlayer of the indoor Alabama Class 5A state meet. She has also beennamed the Outstanding Performer for the meet. This year alone, she hasbroken four indoor and two outdoor Class 5A records and was named thePaul Bryant Invitational MVP.
I hope I'm going to enjoy myself at MSU, Aaron said. I'm reallyexcited to be coming to MSU, but a little scared to be competing in theSEC. It gives way to excitement, though.
The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native is a member of the Spanish Club and hasbeen named to the Honor Roll and received the Most Distinguished Senioraward. Aaron plans to major in biological sciences (pre-medicine) andis the daughter of Rachael Washington.
