Pensacola's Williams To Continue Track Career At MSU
STARKVILLE, Miss. ?€“ Mississippi State University associate head track and field coach Steve Dudley has announced the signing of Pensacola, Fla.'s Clarance Williams to a national letter-of-intent. Williams will begin competing for the Bulldogs beginning during the 2006-07 school year.
"We are very fortunate to have found Clarance since he had been playing junior college football," Dudley said. "He was a top five national long jumper coming out of high school in 2004. Healso brings another individual with good overall speed to our 4x100 relay. He is a hard working individual, and we can't wait to add him to our team."
Williams has spent the past season at Pensacola Junior College but has not competed in athletics due to injury. While at PJC, Williams was named to the Dean's and President's List.
As a prep at Booker T. Washington High School under Everett Whiteside, Williams posted a single season record in the long jump, leaping a personal-best 24 feet, 11 inches. An all-State selection in the long jump, Williams was team MVP for two seasons. As a senior, he finished second in the long and triple jumps at the state meet. His personal best times include 47-02 in the triple jump, 21.42 in the 200-meter dash and 10.40 in the 100-meter dash.
He was also a member of the Washington High football team. He was named Best Defensive Back and Special Teams MVP. Williams intends to major in computer science and is the son of Carolyn Watkins and the late Willie Williams.
