Korzack Leads MSU In First Round Of East Regional

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - Mississippi State senior Ashleigh Korzack shot a career-best 71 on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA East Regional to lead all MSU golfers. Korzack currently stands in a tie for sixth, two shots back of the individual lead.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs shot a 313 to complete the first round. Junior Amanda Mathis fired a 78 and stands in a tie for 71st. Sophomore Julia Huh is in 86th place after firing an 80. Stephanie Godare fired an 84 and stands in a tie for 102nd with MSU freshman Leigh Phillips who also shot an 84.
LSU and California both shot even in the first round and stand on top of the leaderboard. The two teams have a four-stroke lead over third-place Tennessee. Alabama's Jenny Suh leads the individual competition after firing a 69. Four players are tied for second at 2-under par while nine players are tied for sixth at 1-under.
Second round competition will begin Friday at 7:30 a.m. CT at Bryan Park Golf Club's Champions Course.
