MSU Adds Kansas Native Roberts To Track Signees
It is not many times where an athletic program finds such anoutstanding academic and athletic performer such as Kyle Roberts,Dudley said. He has a 4.0 GPA and has been named an NJCAA all-Americannumerous times. We look forward to him joining our program.
During the 2006 indoor season at HCC, Roberts finished second in thepentathlon. As a freshman, he took third in the indoor pentathlon andsecond in the outdoor 400-meter hurdles. His personal best timesinclude 47.77 seconds in the 400-meter dash and 52.04 in the 400-meterhurdles.
Roberts is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and a memberof a car restoration group at HCC. He was an athletic academicall-American, named to Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges andnamed to the Dean's Honor Roll the past three semesters.
As a prep under coach Brett Eckert at Hutchinson High School, Robertsquailed for the state track and field meet all four years and was aleague and regional champion as a junior and senior. His team tooksecond overall his junior campaign and won the overall title his seniorseason. A two-time state champion in the 300-meter hurdles, Roberts wonthose titles his junior and senior seasons and took second in the110-meter hurdles both years. As a senior, he also finished second inthe triple jump and ran on the second-place 4x400-meter relay. WhileHHS, Roberts was named his team's Most Valuable Player as a junior andsenior and holds school records in the 400-meter dash and 300-meterhurdles.
In addition to track, Roberts was a member of the Salthawk soccer teamall four years. As a junior, the team finished fourth at state and tooksecond his sophomore year. He wrapped up his career as the secondall-time leading scorer at HHS. Roberts also played basketball for twoseasons and was a member of the Key Club, Student Council and LatinClub. He was named to the Principal's Honor Roll for four years andnamed to Who's Who Among American High School Students.
I'm very excited to be coming to Mississippi State, Roberts said.Everyone here talks about how good the SEC is in track and field andnow, I get to compete in it. I want to show that Midwest boys can run,too. I hope to place in the top three at conference and go to nationalsbefore I graduate.
Roberts is the son of Jacque and Ken Roberts and is undecided on hismajor.
