4x400-Meter Relay Takes College Mens' Final At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ?€“ The Mississippi State University men's 4x400-meter relay team closed out the 112th Penn Relays on Saturday afternoon by winning the college men's division of the event. A trio of juniors ?€“ Bruce Davis (Phenix City, Ala.), Ezra Jones (Wildwood, Fla.) and Nathan Daniels (New Iberia, La.) ?€“ along with sophomore all-American Elzie Coleman (Newburgh, N.Y.) clocked a regional-qualifying 3 minutes, 6.54 seconds to take the title.
"The 4x4 win was a big one," said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. "They finished off the weekend well ?€“ and without Arthur Davis (who was away from the team at his mother's wedding). The middle distance squad had a great week."
The MSU women's 4x800-meter relay squad of junior Jen McPherson (Nampa, Idaho), sophomore Andrea Wahlin (Cold Spring, Minn.), junior Liz Grube (Sherwood, Wis.) and senior Zita Magloire (Tallahassee, Fla.) ran the second-best time of the season, crossing the finish line in 8:48.59 in the Championship of America event.
Both MSU squads take the week off to prepare for spring semester final exams before returning to action May 11-14 at the 2006 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
