Lady Bulldogs Finish 10th At SEC Championship
We played well the last two days of the tournament after getting off to a slowstart, said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. Now we will go back and practicethe next two weeks and wait for the NCAA Regional selections.
Junior Amanda Mathis led State, finishing in a tie for 11th after shooting a 75on Sunday. Senior Ashleigh Korzack shot a 73 in the final round and concludedthe tournament in a tie for 30th. Senior Stephanie Godare finished in a tie for53rd, shooting a 240 for the tournament. A day after matching a career bestround, Freshman Leigh Phillips set a new mark, shooting a 77 on Sunday. Shefinished in 56th place. Sophomore Julia Huh finished the tournament in 58th,shooting a 245 for the tournament.
Auburn edged out Tennessee by one stroke in the final round to win the teamtitle. Maria Martinez of Auburn claimed individual honors after firing a 70 inthe final round, finishing the tournament at 5-under par.
State will now await the NCAA Regional selections on May 1 to see if they willcontinue their season in a Regional.
