MSU's Travis McKay Earns SEC Track And Field Runner Of The Week Honors

McKay earned an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase this past weekend at the Georgia Relays in Athens, Ga. The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-native qualified with a personal-best eight minutes, 54.95 seconds to claim the top spot in the event. He becomes the first runner in the country to garner a regional qualifying mark. The time posted also ranks as the top time in the nation as of March 19 along with being the third-best mark in MSU track and field laurels.
This award marks the third time McKay has earned the weekly honor from the SEC. This past fall, he earned the award for winning the Sewanee Invite during the cross country season. He was also a 2005 weekly award winner in cross country.
Up next for State will be a trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on March 23 for the Alabama Relays.
