No. 27 Tennessee Lady Vols Blank Lady Bulldogs 7-0
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ?€“ Mississippi State 's Southeastern Conference struggles continued Sunday against No. 27 Tennessee, falling 7-0 to the Lady Volunteers at the Goodfriend Tennis Center on the UT campus on Sunday afternoon.
On court one, State's Renee Joseph battled UT's Melissa Schaub, but fell 6-4, 6-4. The Orange and White clinched the match when Blakeley Griffith topped Daniela Juskova 6-3, 6-1. MState freshman Elna de Villiers won the opening set 7-5 against UT's Samantha Orlin, but dropped the next two sets 5-7, 0-1. Both Martina Banikova and Tatiana Feit lost decisions at the No. 2 and 4 positions respectively.
In doubles competition, State's tandem of Banikova and de Villiers squeaked out an 8-7 win over UT's pair of Melissa Schaub and Ghizela Schutte.
State closes out the regular season next Saturday, April 15, hosting in-state rival Mississippi at 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Championships will be contested on April 20-23 at the University of Florida.
