Bulldog Netmen Drop 6-1 Decision To Tennessee

The Volunteers edged out State in doubles action to gain a 1-0 advantagein the match. The first completed match was on the #3 court where UT's DaveBaxendine and Johnny Thornton knocked off MSU's Ryan Farlow and Josh Irey8-4. The Vols clinched the point when the 29th-ranked tandem of Adam Hubbleand Ben Rogers outlasted State's pair of Ivan Bjelica and Pierre Mouillon,winning 9-7. UT's Bobby Cameron and Kaden Hensel also recorded a victory forthe Vols, winning 8-6 over MSU's Florent Girod and Jose-Carlos Pinto.
Tennessee (9-9, 3-7) waisted no time in sustaining its momentum oncesingles play began, winning the first set in five of the six matches. UTwent up 2-0 when Hensel defeated State's 97th-ranked Mouillon 6-2, 7-6(3) onthe #1 court. Tennessee extended its lead to 3-0 when Derek Stephens knockedoff MSU's Philippe Frayssinoux 6-3, 6-3. The clinching point came on court#6 where UT's Rogers defeated MSU's Farlow 6-4, 6-2. The remaining threematches went to a third set before they were decided. UT's Cameron defeatedState's Bjelica 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 on court #2 while MSU's Pinto dropped a 6-3,3-6, 1-0(9) match to UT's Kiril Tcherveniachki on court #3. MSU's Girod wasvictorious for State after UT's Baxendine defaulted the match in the thirdset.
State will wrap up regular season action next Saturday (April 15) whenthe Bulldogs travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on arch-rival Mississippi atnoon.
