Ferguson's Hat Trick Moves State Past Alumni In 6-1 Runaway
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Sophomore Treena Ferguson scored two of her game-high three goals in the second half to help her Mississippi State teammates win their fourth consecutive game against their alumni counterparts on a 6-1 rout of the former Bulldogs Saturday morning at the Mississippi State Soccer Field.
Ferguson logged a game-best three scores and one assist, while classmate Kevyn Shelledy added two goals and an assist of her own, to key the largest margin of victory in four tries against the alumni squad. Caitlin Gallagher also added a score for the current team, while Allison Mullen (2003-04) netted the lone goal for the alumni squad.
The Bulldogs used a Shelledy strike in the 22nd minute to key a 1-0 halftime lead, but busted the game wide open with four goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Mullen got the alumni squad off the mark with a goal in the 65th minute of play, but the current Bulldogs responded with two more scores, one by Shelledy in the 78th tick and another by Ferguson in the 84th.
The game completed the competition portion of MState's Spring soccer schedule. The team will wrap up offseason workouts with four practices next week before convening team practices until August.
