MSU Track And Field Returns To Austin For 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays
In the past few years, we've gone to Texas and come back withtrophies, and not many teams can boast that, said MSU head coach AlSchmidt. We're going to Austin wanting to win more.
At home last weekend, sophomore all-American Chris Woods (Atlanta, Ga.)ran a regional-qualifying 1 minute, 48.90 seconds in the 800-meter runto become to the first Bulldog since 1993 to crack the top five list inthe event. Junior transfers Ezra Jones (Wildwood, Fla.) and Bruce Davis(Phenix City, Ala.) also qualified in the 400-meter dash with Jonesclocking 46.99 to win the event. Davis was third in 47.24
In the 1500-meter run, junior Phillip Moore (Birmingham, Ala.) won theevent, running a personal-best 3:57.23. Junior Travis McKay (Edmonton,Alberta) took top billing in the 3000-meter run, setting a new SpencerStadium/Maddox Track record with his 8:26.51 time.
In women's action, senior Zita Magloire (Tallahassee, Fla.) won the800- and 1500-meter runs at the Bulldog Invitational. Magloire clocked2:10.83 in the 800 and 4:34.30 in the 1500. In the 100-meter hurdles,freshman Marrissa Harris (Memphis, Tenn.) qualified for the NCAARegionals after running 13.92. Harris and teammate Emily Sanders(Woodstock, Ga.), who broke her previous freshman record in the hammerwith a throw of 172-01, have qualified for this summer's USATF JuniorOutdoor Track and Field Championships.
Austin has been a hotbed for MSU success in recent years. Last year atthe Texas Relays, redshirt senior Steve Mullings (Perth Town, Jamaica)set a new Mike A. Myers Stadium record and tied the Texas Relays recordin the 100-meter dash, running 10.06. MSU also holds the Texas Relaysrecord in the women's distance medley relay (11:10.06), set in 2004.
