State Closes Out The Weekend Hosting 12th-Ranked Vanderbilt On Sunday

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State women's tennis team will close out their Southeastern Conference weekend hosting 12th-ranked Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. on the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre courts.
The Lady Bulldogs suffered a 7-0 setback on Friday against 29th-ranked Kentucky. The match featured two three-set matches at court one and three respectively. State fell to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in league play. The Commodores moved to 5-0 in the conference with a 4-3 win over Mississippi in Oxford on Friday.
Before Friday's 4-3 win against Mississippi, Vanderbilt knocked off then No. 11 Texas, the 2006 National Team Indoor runner-up on March 17. The Commodores are led by junior Amanda Fish, ranked 20th in the country, joining her in the national rankings are sophomores Taka Bertrand and Amanda Taylor, ranked 40th and 75th respectively. The Black and Gold bring the best over all record in the league to the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center at 14-2 and are tied atop the Eastern Division standings with Florida.
MState and Commodores will be meeting for the 26th time with the VU holding an 18-7 margin in the series with the last MState win over VU coming in 1991.
