Bulldogs Edge Out LSU In Sprint Medley At LSU Tiger Relays

In the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, junior Travis McKay (Edmonton,Alberta) ran a season-best 9:00.39 to qualify for June's NCAA MideastRegional.
Redshirt-freshman Keith Hewlett (Detroit, Mich.) won section B of thelong jump competition, leaping a personal-best 23 feet,10-and-one-quarter inches. Hewlett finished second in section A of theevent (23-06¾). Teammate Jerald Wilson (Port Gibson, Miss.) also set apersonal best in B section of the event with a mark of 22-08½.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up two wins on the day. MSU's 4x800-meterrelay team of junior Jen McPherson (Nampa, Idaho), sophomore AndreaWahlin (Cold Spring, Minn.), junior Liz Grube (Sherwood, Wis.) andsenior Zita Magloire (Tallahassee, Fla.) ran a school-record 8:51.12 towin the meet title.
In the long jump, freshman Janelle Finley (Mobile, Ala.) continued thewinning ways for the Lady Bulldogs. Finley won section B of the longjump, leaping 18-08½. Freshman Marrissa Harris (Memphis, Tenn.) set anew personal best during the section A finals of the event. Harrisjumped 18-11¾, the fifth-best mark in the event in school history.
Harris also qualified for Saturday's 100-meter hurdles final, takingsecond in the preliminaries with a qualifying time of 13.96, tyingteammate Lauren Johnson (Scottsboro, Ala.) for the fourth-best time onthe all-time superlatives list.
In the 100-meter dash, freshman Gabrielle Dillon (Liberty, Miss.) ran12.80 on the women's side, while junior Eliott Morant (Kansas City,Mo.) and freshman Pierre Allen (Water Valley, Miss.) ran 10.95 and11.16, respectively on the men's side.
In women's throws events, junior Christina Hernandez (Asheville, N.C.)placed third in the discus with a mark of 151-08, while junior NicolaWilson (Trenton, N.J.) finished sixth with a personal-best 141-08.Freshman Emily Sanders (Woodstock, Ga.) took eighth in the javelinthrow, throwing the second-best mark in school history, 124-08.
On the men's side, freshman Daniel Zabaldano (Brandon, Miss.) finishedtied for seventh in the discus throw with a personal-best 149-03. Inthe javelin, sophomore Joseph Queen (Jackson, Miss.) set a personalbest with a throw of 162-02, while Zabaldano's mark was 146-04.
Action resumes tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Bernie Moore Track Complex onthe LSU campus.
